Question 2

In what ways does a Matterport 3D virtual tour differ from a conventional virtual tour?

A conventional virtual tour typically consists of a 2D video or gallery of panoramic 2D photos and doesn't offer viewers the ability to move around within the space. These tours usually provide only 4 to 10 individual locations to view the space, and photographers use DSLR cameras to capture multiple photos that are stitched together to form a panoramic image. The resulting image can be viewed using special online plugins. No further features are added.

In contrast, Matterport 3D VR tours provide an immersive experience that allows viewers to explore a space in up to 2500 locations, seamlessly stitched together using the Matterport Pro3, a device combining photographic and laser data. With this data a 3 dimensional space is created by an AI algorithm. Users can look up, down, turn around, walk around objects like a kitchen island, and see the space from multiple angles of their choice. The Matterport Pro 3 camera creates a complete virtual walk-through and gives true sense of space to the user.
We are adding dozens of unique feature to the 3D digital twin to make it as engaging as possible, like live meetings, booking & communication integrations, gamifications and much more!

What is the typical timeframe required to develop a tour?

On average, it takes approximately 60 minutes to scan an area of 200 square meter. However, if there are any obstacles such as people or pets that hinder the scanning process, the time required for scanning is likely to increase.

How is the 3D Showcase created?

Accepted Answer

To capture the entire space, we position our 3D scanning device in multiple locations. At each position, it captures data from a 360-degree angle by rotating with its built-in motor, projecting a laser grid on the surface and HDR photography. After collecting the data, we upload it to the Matterport cloud for processing. Once processing is complete, we will share some links with you. You can easily embed these links on your website, share them on social media, or email them directly to your clients.

What do I need to do before the appointment?

To ensure that we capture the best possible images of the space, we kindly request that you have it cleaned and de-cluttered before our appointment. Please make sure that the space is staged and in "open-house" condition as the camera will capture everything and there will be no opportunity to edit or modify the images later.

Do you scan every room?

Accepted Answer

We capture images of all interior spaces except for small closets like linen closets or pantries. Please ensure that the doors to all rooms that need to be scanned are open when we arrive. We typically include any area that can be accessed by a human. However, if you have any sensitive material such as photographs, diplomas, etc., that you don't want to be visible in the tour, please make sure to remove them before our arrival. It's important to note that once we complete shooting, it's not possible to digitally remove or photoshop out any items that were present in the space during the shoot.

What is your delivery timeframe?

Depending on the size of your space. A Matterport 3D tour for a space of up to 500 m2 will usually be available within 1-2 business days.

How do I embed an Matterport Virtual Tour into a website?

Accepted Answer

Embedding a model is an easy process that's similar to embedding a YouTube video. We will provide you with a code that you can easily cut and paste. Additionally, you can use a standard HTML link to share the model on your website, in emails, or anywhere else web links are used.

What are the compatible browsers, tablets, and smartphones?

Accepted Answer

Our Matterport 3D Showcases utilize WebGL, which is the modern standard for 3D content on the web. The latest versions of Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Internet Explorer on desktop computers support WebGL. On mobile devices, most browsers support WebGL. If you are an Apple device user, you can also download the Matterport Showcase application, which allows you to view your scan offline.

Can I import a Matterport 3D Model into CAD software?

Yes. We can provide you with an industry-standard OBJ file, which will contain both the 3D mesh and textures.
The Matterport BIM File is an additional deliverable you can purchase after we have scanned a space and uploaded it to the Matterport Cloud. The files you receive can be easily imported into Autodesk’s® Revit software. Included in the BIM (Building Information Modeling) package are:
.RVT file (compatible with Revit 2020 and newer)
.DWG (Floor Plan)
.DWG (Reflected Ceiling Plan)
.IFC (Industry Foundation Classes)
.RCS (ReCap Scan, a point cloud)
The Matterport BIM File is for those who work in the AEC space (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction), such as the following:
Sectors: Commercial, Retail, Data Centers, General Architecture/Design Firms, Engineering Firms, construction companies.
Beneficiaries: Professionals within organizations responsible for design, construction, project management, acquisitions, and leasing.

Question 11

Why do I see a small blur when panning down?

When viewers walk through the finished 3D model, they may notice a small blurred area in the center of the scan if they pan all the way down to the bottom. This blur is created intentionally by the scanning device to block the legs of the tripod from view. Similarly, there may be a blurred patch directly above the device, where it cannot capture images.

Question 12

What causes "black holes" to appear on some areas of my model when I view it in the dollhouse or floor plan view?

Accepted Answer

While viewing your model in the dollhouse or floor plan view, you may notice some areas appearing as "black areas" (which are not visible in the walk-through view). This is a normal occurrence as these areas are not visible to the scanner or even to the human eye when walking through (for instance, areas inside a column, behind a chair in the corner, or inside a small closet). Small non-walk-in closets, very small storage spaces, pantries, residential garages, and attics are usually not included in the scans.
